　　　　※日本の鉄道が初めて品川～横浜(のち桜木町)間に開業した明治05.05.07は西暦では1872.06.12、新橋～横浜間(のち汐留～桜木町間)「鉄道開業式」が挙行された明治05.09.12は西暦では1872.10.14であり、明治５年の年末まで旧暦（正確には「太陰太陽暦」）のこよみだったので、明治５年の日付には特段の注意が必要です。　鉄道の日（旧鉄道記念日）の10月14日は、西暦の日付なのです。
　　　　※改暦実施は突然でした。　《明治05.11.09（西暦1872.12.09）太政官布告第337号　改暦ノ布告　今般太陰暦ヲ廃シ太陽暦御頒行相成候ニ付来ル(ごはんこうあいなりそうろうにつききたる)十二月三日ヲ以テ明治六年一月一日ト被定候事(さだめられそうろうこと)・・・》　　旧暦の明治05.12.02（西暦1872.12.31）を大晦日とし、明治05.12.03～12.30の28日間を飛ばして、翌日（本来なら明治05.12.03）を元旦（明治06.01.01 ＝ 西暦1873.01.01）と定め、現行の新暦（グレゴリオ太陽暦）への改暦を断行。　明治５年11月は29日までだったので、大晦日にされた12月２日は、布告のわずか22日後という慌ただしさでした。
　　　　※ローマ教皇グレゴリウス13世が、「ユリウス暦1582.10.04(木)(天正10.09.18)」の翌日、「ユリウス暦1582.10.05」～「ユリウス暦1582.10.14」の10日間を飛ばして、翌日を「1582.10.15(金)(天正10.09.19)」の日付とし、現行の世界標準暦である「太陽暦(グレゴリオ暦)」に改暦しています。　このため対応表を、元号でキリのよい「天正11.01.01(グレゴリオ暦1583.01.24)」開始としました。
　　　　※ちなみに、天正(てんしょう)と言えば「天正遣欧少年使節」。キリシタン大名大友宗麟・有馬晴信らの名代として、伊東マンショ・千々石ミゲル・中浦ジュリアン・原マルティノの４名が長崎を発ったのは、天正10.01.28(ユリウス暦1582.02.20、グレゴリオ暦換算1582.03.02)。マカオ、ゴア、サンタ・エレーナ(セントヘレナ島)を経てリスボンに上陸した時は、ユリウス暦からグレゴリオ暦に変わった1584.08.11になっていました。　1585.03.23バチカンで、満82歳のローマ教皇グレゴリウス13世に謁見（18日後の1585.04.10急逝。1585.05.01新たな教皇シクストゥス５世の戴冠式にも出席）したのちリスボンに戻り、リスボンを1586.04.13出発、ゴアの長期滞在を経て長崎に帰国したのは、豊臣秀吉によるバテレン追放令の翌年の、天正18.06.20(ユリウス暦換算1590.07.11、グレゴリオ暦1590.07.21)でした。　持ち帰ったグーテンベルク印刷機(活版印刷機)によって、日本語書物の活版印刷が初めて行われ「キリシタン版」と呼ばれました。

　　　　　※May 7th, Meiji 5, the date when Japan's first railway line connecting Shinagawa in Tokyo and Yokohama in Kanagawa opened, corresponds to June 12th, 1872 in the Gregorian calendar.
Since the old calendar (more precisely, the lunisolar calendar) was still in use until the end of December of that year, caution is needed when interpreting the dates.
The calendar reform was implemented suddenly.
《November 9, Meiji 5 (December 9, 1872) Imperial Proclamation No. 337, Proclamation of Calendar Reform：Regarding the abolition of the lunar calendar and the adoption of the solar calendar, the 3rd day of December is hereby designated as January 1st of Meiji 6...》
December 2, on the lunisolar calendar was designated as New Year's Eve, and the 28 days from December 3 to December 30 were skipped, with the next day（originally, it was December 3, Meiji 5）being designated as New Year's Day (January 1, Meiji 6 = 1873.01.01), and the calendar was changed to the current Gregorian solar calendar.
Since November in the 5th year of Meiji ended on the 29th, New Year's Eve on December 2nd came only 22 days after the proclamation, making it a very rushed affair.
